Hershey, PA

So two weekends ago we decided to check off a trip in our "to do's" on the east coast. We headed out to Hershey, PA. In the beginning of the 1900's Milton Hershey was already famous for the Lancaster Caramel Company but sold it to build a chocolate factory in Derry Church, PA were he would have an endless supply of milk to perfect his milk chocolate. In 1905 he finished construction on his chocolate factory and the rest is history. He had a whole town built after him. In his bio it says "He built a model town for his employees that included comfortable homes, an inexpensive public transportation system, a quality public school system and extensive recreational and cultural opportunities." This guys was an incredible philanthropist.

Hershey, PA today still holds the Hershey Chocolate Factory. It also has the Hersheypark (an amusement park), Hershey Chocolate World and Zooamerica to name a few. We decided for budget sake to check out Hershey Chocolate World which is the a tour of how Hershey makes chocolate. Later we went to Zooamerica. It was all set in the middle of this beautiful county farm land. What a great day it was. We had a blast. A definite recommendation to anyone who is heading this a way. Side note, sorry for all water spots on the pictures. It was sprinkling all day.

The Hershey Hotel. It's huge and beautiful. Written in the grass is Welcome to Hershey.
Entrance to Hersheypark and Chocolate World.

Watching children bag their own kisses. It was totally a ride like Disneyland. Of course we love that. The cows are a reminder that Milk was the most important ingredient in their chocolate. They sang and danced, it was cute. Makin' all sorts of good stuff. Reeces, Kit Kats, and Hershey Bars. Labeling Hershey bars. Mmm... chocolate syrup. They even took your picture at the end of the ride. Classic. Our purchase. Check out the light post on Cocoa Ave.

See next blog for Zooamerica.

We went there on our last trip back east to WV & DC. I loved it, but the chocolate was a bit pricey... still good and fun nonetheless!
